The 2016 Dancing with the Stars of Auburn will take place on January 30, 2016.  This will be the seventh annual Dancing With the Stars, in what has become one of the most popular Auburn events of the year. It is also the largest fundraiser for Auburn Youth and Family Services, raising over $20,000 annually for the social services agency.

The AYFS Dancing With the Stars planning committee seeks out local personalities willing to throw caution to the wind and get a little crazy for a good cause.  The participants are paired with dance instructors from Sally McDermott Dance Centers in Auburn and Charlton.  The female contestants are paired with instructors from Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Worcester.

Each year, the show features a different theme. Last year, the theme was “Hooray for Hollywood” where each pair chose a movie on which to base their routine.   For this year, the theme is”Hometown Glory.”

There will be 11 couples competing this year:

Billy Sarkisian of Illusions Hair Design  dancing with Kat Damian
Matt Carlson, Assistant Principal of Auburn Middle School dancing with Kate Stanley
Justin Brigham of the Auburn Fire Department dancing with Sarah Nugent
Joe Cusson with the Auburn Department of Public Works dancing with Jessica Gleason
Carrie Cross of Life Care Center of Auburn and President of Auburn Chamber of Commerce dancing with Ben Champagne
Sarah Strozina, Auburn Assistant Town Clerk dancing with Jarod Clark
David Ethier of Everybody’s Fitness dancing with Michelle Duclos
Erik Massey from Midstate Auto Group dancing with Nadine Zona
Scott Wrenn, attorney, dancing with Heather McDermott
Erik Berg, teacher at Auburn High School dancing with Megan Berg
Raffi Vartabedian, co-president of the Auburn PTO dancing with Megan McDermott

The dancers have about two months to choreograph, learn and perfect their dance routine, which typically runs between 3 and 4 minutes.  For a partner who (probably) does not have much dancing experience, this can be a very tall order.  It is also a lot of fun, and for a very good cause.

The event takes place at Motorsports International, 444 Washington Street in Auburn, on January 30.  There is a snow date of February 6.  Tickets will go on sale in early January; Auburn Mass Daily will provide more information when tickets are available.
