According to an APD Facebook post early Sunday morning, an Auburn family in the Chestnut St. area contacted police to report possible tampering with a piece of candy handed out during Halloween trick-or-treating.
There was reportedly a “metallic object” about 1″ in length found inside the candy wrapper, but not inside the chocolate, of a Hershey’s bar. Police stated that the family reported the candy wrapper had a small tear when it was received.
The family had gone trick or treating along Chestnut, Adella, and White Terrace, visiting about 35-50 houses.
Auburn Police state they believe this is an isolated incident. There has not been a determination about whether someone tampered with the candy locally, or perhaps it was due to a manufacturing issue. Regardless, Police encourage residents to “diligently and thoroughly check any candy their children received”, which would seem a good idea in any case.
If anyone finds additional suspect candy, please call the Auburn Police at 832-7777.
