On May 30, 2015, Nicole Berthiaume had planned to go to brunch with a group of friends to celebrate one of their birthdays. Plans changed quickly on this bright, sunny day when an unexpected invite was extended to spend the day on a friend’s boat.  Nikki and her friends found themselves boating, swimming, tanning and enjoying life near Spectacle Island in Boston.

Nikki was in the water and swimming back towards the boat when she was critically injured by the boat’s propeller. Her right arm was severed, her left arm badly injured, her abdomen severely lacerated. She also suffered a laceration on her head as well as multiple areas across her body.

Nikki has undergone three surgeries so far, and it is not certain if future surgeries will be needed. She is now fighting for her recovery with a positive attitude and determination. The road ahead is a long one with much work to do both physically and emotionally. She continues to get excellent medical care, but will need continued medical care for the rest of her life. Nikki has won the fight for her life, but is now in need of funds to pay for her continuing medical care and treatment including physical rehabilitation and prostheses.

Friends and family have planned a benefit to help defray these mounting medical costs. The event will be November 6 from 7-11pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 44 Circuit Ave. N., in Worcester.  Tickets are $20 and includes a buffet dinner and entertainment.  There will also be drawings and an auction.
