As the average temperature starts to drop, the football action for Auburn Youth Football & Cheer is heating up. The 4th Grade Rockets are establishing themselves as a “force to be reckoned with” in their first year as a member of the Central Mass Youth Football & Cheer Conference.
There are a total of 18 4th Grade teams split over three divisions, with Auburn in the Southwest along with Oxford, Worcester, Leicester, Millbury and Charlton. The Rockets finished the regular season with a 6-2 record, third in the division, and qualified for the eight team Conference Playoffs as the #6 seed.
Last Sunday, the Rockets travelled to Shirley to take on the #3 overall seed North Middlesex Patriots. The Patriots were the North division champion with a 7-1 regular season record. The Rockets quickly punched their ticket into the next round using big plays on offense and a relentless defense to dispatch the Pats 25 – 0.
The win sets up a rematch with the Worcester Cowboys in the conference semifinal. The two teams met during the seventh week of the season with the Cowboys coming out on top 19 – 6. That score represents the only touchdown given up by Worcester all season. The Rocket players and coaching staff feel that those six points provide the foundation they can build upon to work towards a victory this week, earning a trip to Tyngsboro for the Conference Championship November 8.
The game is at 11:00am this Saturday, October 31, at Morse Field (10 Winthrop Street, Worcester). Admission is $5 for adults and kids are Free. The weather looks like it will be great, and the action on the field is guaranteed to impress. It is amazing how much a large and vocal cheering section can motivate the team. Start your Halloween off by supporting these Auburn boys that have been working towards this goal since July.
