Auburn Youth Basketball is busy preparing for the upcoming season.  Practices for the Recreational League are schedule to start on November 30, with the first games expected to be on Saturday, December 6.  The season will run through mid-March. Practices and games are typically held at Swanson Road Intermediate School, Auburn Middle School and Auburn High School.

Registrations should all be done online, by visiting www.auburnyouthbball.org, through October 26.  Cost for recreational basketball is $95 per player, with discounts for each additional sibling.

There are five divisions within recreational basketball: Kindergarten – 2nd grade co-ed instructional played on 8-foot hoops with a 30 minute practice and 30 minute game on Saturdays; 3rd – 5th grades Junior Boys and Junior Girls, with a practice during the week and game on Saturday; and 6th – 9th grades Senior Boys and Senior Girls, with a practice during the week and game on Saturday.

Boys and girls who plan to play in the Junior or Senior divisions should attend an evaluation, so that the teams can be balanced (schedule below).  There is no evaluation for the kindergarten – 2nd grade division, as those players will be automatically placed on a team.

  • 3rd grade Boys and Girls – Monday, November 9, Swanson Road Intermediate School, 6:00 – 7:00 PM
  • 4th grade Boys and Girls – Monday, November 9, Swanson Road Intermediate School, 7:00 – 8:00 PM

  • 6th – 9th grade Boys – Saturday, November 14, Auburn High School, 11:30 AM – 12:45 PM

In addition to the Recreational League, Auburn Youth Basketball also features a Travel League.  Travel basketball starts in the 4th grade, with different teams for boys and girls at each level through 8th grade.  There are limited roster spots available on each travel team (typically 10 players), so cuts may need to be made.  Games are played on Sunday, with travel to other towns required.  There is also a separate practice each week for the travel teams.   There is an additional cost of approximately $100, beyond the cost for the recreational league, for those players who make a travel team.  Tryouts for travel basketball are as follows:

  • 7th grade Boys and Girls – Friday, October 16, Auburn High School, 6:00 – 7:15 PM
