AUBURN … Robert W. “Bull” Degon, 88, died at home, September 26, following an illness. His wife, Mary (Wood) Degon, died in 2012. He is survived by two sons, Timothy W. Walker, of Worcester, and Herbert J. Degon, of Auburn; a brother, Dickie Degon, of Hubbardston; a sister, Jean Daigle, of Grafton; a grandson and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas J. Walker.
Mr. Degon was born in Worcester, September 5, 1927, a son of Herbert and Germaine (Dussault) Degon. Born and raised on Grafton Hill, he lived in Worcester most of his life, moving to Auburn in 2005. He was a graduate of Commerce High School, and served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Mr. Degon worked at the former Worcester Cold Storage Company for 37 years, retiring as a shipper, in 1983, after which he worked as a security officer at Honeywell, until 1991.
He was a member the Grafton Hill American Legion Post, #323, for more than 60 years, and served on the executive board of the Teamsters’ Retirees, Local #170. He was an active member of the Sutton Senior Center, and an avid camper, belonging to the Worcester Chapter, and the Good Sam Club.
Mr. Degon’s Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, September 30, in the Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill Street, Whitinsville, preceded by Calling Hours from 9-11 AM. Burial will follow in South Sutton Cemetery.
