Auburn Youth Football and Cheer kicks off its first season this Saturday with a full slate of games at Auburn High Saturday, Sept. 5.

The league was formerly affiliated with Pop Warner football, but made the break to join the Central Mass Youth football and Cheer Conference – an affiliate of American Youth Football. In an interview with AYFC President, Mike Hammond in March, he said the new affiliation allows for more local games and more fair competition.  “There are no more weight limits, no out of division games, and everyone can play” said Hammond.  “Cheerleading gets better, too, since they can participate in any tournament they qualify for, not just Pop Warner competitions.”

The CMass AYF conference includes 27 area communities including Millbury/Sutton, Oxford, Leicester/Spencer, Shrewsbury, Charlton, Grafton, and Worcester.

AYFC fields six football teams and two cheerleading squads, with close to 150 students in Kindergarten through sixth grade, who will all be in action on the home turf Saturday.

The games are free and open to the public, though donations are graciously accepted.  The AHS snack shack will be open to keep families fed.  AYFC invites families in town to kick off their Labor Day weekend by coming out to support the boys and girls who have been working hard all summer long to get ready for Saturday. This turns into a great community event and everyone is encouraged to wear their blue and white.

Additionally, for those looking for another way to support the youth of AYFC, you are welcome to join the 1st Annual AYFC Golf Tournament on September 21, 2015 at the beautiful Pine Ridge Country Club in North Oxford, MA. The event will be a 4-person scramble with a shotgun start at 9:00AM.  Individual registrants will be teamed randomly.  Fee includes  green fees, cart, italian buffet and golf shirt.  Mulligans will be available for purchase at registration, and a string for use on any hole (prize holes excluded) for $5. Register by visiting http://www.planmygolfevent.com/28349-AYFC/.
