At the start of Monday’s Board of Selectmen meeting, a Proclamation was presented to former Town Clerk Ellen C. Gaboury for her many years of service to the Town of Auburn.

Gaboury served as the Assistant Town Clerk from December 12, 1994 to April 12, 2002 and as Town Clerk from April 12, 2002 to May 19, 2015. In part, the Proclamation reads, “Ellen Gaboury’s civic dedication exemplifies a “True Citizen of Auburn” and should be emulated by all the citizens…”

The Proclamation was signed by Board of Selectmen Chair Ken Holstrom, Vice-Chair Doreen Goodrich, Selectman Denise Brotherton and Selectman Dan Carpenter. There was no signature from Selectman Stephen Simonian when it was presented to Ms. Gaboury.

Words of gratitude were expressed by Town Moderator Charles Baker and former Town Clerk Elizabeth Prouty who hired Ellen Gaboury back in 1994. Town Manager Julie Jacobson along with Selectmen Holstrom, Goodrich, Brotherton and Carpenter also expressed their thanks for a job well done.

As this agenda item came up, Selectman Steve Simonian stood up and exited the room. He did not return until the meeting reconvened after a brief recess so those in the audience could greet Ms. Gaboury.

On Tuesday evening, Auburn Mass Daily contacted Selectman Simonian on his cell phone. When asked about his absence during the presentation, Simonian said, “I have my own reasons, and I don’t really want to discuss it.”

Ellen Gaboury will certainly be missed at Auburn’s Town Hall. Enjoy your retirement!
