On Monday night, members of the Open Space Committee will be meeting with the Board of Selectmen in a joint meeting. The topics will likely include a review of all open space owned by the town, potential open space that might become available in the future, and the disposition of the recently acquired 50 acres off of Southold Rd.

This could be a daunting task for a small committee that currently has three open positions. The mission of the Open Space Committee is “To identify, protect, preserve and restore open space, wetland, and woodlands in the Auburn area to provide permanent wildlife corridors and native plant habitats for the entire community.”

If any residents are interested in serving on this committee, they are asked to contact Town Manager Julie Jacobson or fill out the online application on auburnguide.com.

Other board and commission vacancies are:

Central Mass Regional Planning Commission – 1 seat
Conservation Commission – 1 seat
Council on Aging – 1 seat
Economic Development Committee – 1 seat
Finance Committee (Precinct 2) – 1 seat
Local Channel Committee – 2 seats
Municipal Scholarship Committee – 1 seat
Youth Commission – 1 seat

Volunteerism is the activity that makes a community function. Step up if you can.
