After soundly defeating Narragansett 9-0 on Saturday night in the MIAA Central Division 2 Quarter Final, the Rockets will face Grafton at 7:00pm on Thursday at Worcester State. There was some concern about the WSU location due to construction and parking issues, but the latest MIAA posting suggests that is a moot point.
Auburn started their assault in the bottom of the first when Julia Handfield batted a 3-run homer and put the home team up 3-0. Five runs added in the third and one in the fifth put a comeback out of reach for the Warriors.
The Rockets had 12 hits to Narragansett’s 4 and 1 error to the visitor’s 2. Between solid pitching, good fielding and powerful bats, Auburn is on a roll that will hopefully work against Grafton.
When both teams played their final regular season game on May 28th, Grafton bested Auburn 2-1 despite the Rockets’ 11 hits to the Indians’ 1. A single Auburn error made a big difference in that contest, but the Rockets have been working hard to eliminate those mistakes.
Coach Katie Senior told Auburn Mass Daily, “I had faith in my team tonight. We focused on confidence during our recent practices and even scrimmaged against D1 Wachusett.”
Senior added, “We played well against Grafton, and we’re in a really good place.” There was no lack of confidence on Saturday. Good luck ladies!
