A fire that started in a vacant mill building in Webster spread to several other structures eventually went to seven alarms. Auburn Fire Rescue was called in mutual aid fairly early in the fire, and Webster Fire reports about 20 communities and over 100 firefighters eventually responded.
The fire was reported around 1pm at the Anglo Fabrics Mill on North Main St. It quickly went to four alarms. The fire was reportedly contained by about 4pm, but firefighters were expected to remain through the night to overhaul the scene.
Early media reports indicated that one Webster firefighter and one Auburn firefighter had been treated for injuries. AFRD confirmed via their Facebook page that an Auburn firefighter had been transported to the hospital with chest pains, and that he was in good condition and “doing fine”.
Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles around, as shown in this image from near the Pappas Recreation Complex on Pakachoag Hill. The smoke plume was so extensive that it was actually visible on weather radar.
Auburn Mass Daily will provide additional coverage as information becomes available.
