Brownie troop 30944 visited the Auburn Historical Society on Monday May 4 to learn some valuable lessons from two local veterans. Accompanied by troop leaders Katie Peschiere and Lisa CordeiroMouchfi, the Brownies are 2nd and 3rd graders at Bryn Mawr and Julia Bancroft Schools.
In preparation for Flag Day, Korean War veterans Roger Lacroix and Richard Steelman – both of Auburn – spent some time showing the youngsters the proper care and respect of the American flag. Lacroix served in the Army, while Steelman served in the U.S. Navy.
The Veterans began by demonstrating how to lower the flag and the proper method of folding the flag. The Brownies then took turns learning how to fold and unfold the flag under the watchful supervision of the veterans.
Following the flag demonstration, the Brownies were treated to a tour of the Auburn Historical Museum where, in the words of Museum Director Sari Bitticks, if they behaved they would be allowed to touch the bomb!
