Town meeting members have been informed that next Tuesday’s Special Town Meeting will have to occur over two nights due to a printing error. Assistant Town Clerk Debra Gremo wrote that the meeting warrant previously sent lacked articles 5 through 8. Although the complete warrant has been delivered, the Town Charter requires a 14-day notice before a town meeting.

Town Moderator Charles Baker plans to address articles 1-4 and articles 9-11 on Tuesday, March 14. He then expects the meeting to be adjourned until Wednesday, April 1, at 7:00pm when articles 5-8 will be considered.

A quorum of 80 elected town meeting members will be required at both town meeting sessions, and important articles are at stake. Article 9 is to approve the rewritten “General By-laws of the Town of Auburn Massachusetts.” This is the culmination of over three years’ work by the by-law committee.

Article 6 is to approve $3,024,153 for repairs to 10 Swanson Rd. and Bryn Mawr School as part of the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s Accelerated Repair Program which is expected to pay 54.16 percent of the cost.

Failure to approve articles on both nights could jeopardize over $1.5 million in state funds while buildings still need over $3 million in repairs.

At 7:45pm on April 1st, the Auburn School Committee will be holding a public hearing on the proposed FY16 budget for the Auburn Public Schools. Interested town meeting members can stay seated in the high school auditorium if they are interested.
