Robert J. McCarthy Sr., 80, of Auburn passed away in Florida, February 1st 2015 after an illness.
Robert was born in Worcester, one of eleven children to the late Michael R. and Maria Antoinette (Fabre) McCarthy. He lived in Auburn for over 50 years. Robert served his country proudly with the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged from the service, Robert worked as a truck driver many years. In his retirement, Robert enjoyed playing the stock market, flipping houses in the area and was a member of several pool leagues.
Robert is survived by his two sons, Robert J. McCarthy Jr. and his longtime girlfriend Debra of North Oxford, and Richard F. McCarthy, Jensen Beach, Florida; a sister, Eliane O’Brien of Shrewsbury; and a brother, Maurice McCarthy and his wife, Barbara of Auburn; also survived by his sons Robert’s children, Adam and Julianne Fahey, as well as Richard’s children Sean, Shannon, Brianna McCarthy, and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Robert’s son Michael McCarthy predeceased him in 1983. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Mary Kaminski, Arlene Cormier, and brothers, Richard, John, Michael, Francis, Roger, Paul McCarthy.
He was a life member of the Auburn Elks Lodge # 2118, the Auburn Sportsman’s Club and the Chester P. Tuttle American Legion Post #279. All who loved him will miss him.
Friends and Relatives are invited to visit the family on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 from 4-7 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St, Auburn. His funeral will be on Thursday, February 12, 2015 with a funeral Mass at 10 AM in Saint Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford St North, Auburn. Burial with military honors will be in the family lot in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn
