DOUGLAS – James Stewart Chase passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015. He was 63. James was born in Marlboro, MA, son of the late Joseph C. and Earler F. (Lowe) Chase.
James graduated from Marlboro High School in 1969 where he was a talented, three season athlete. In 1973, Jim graduated from the University of Hartford. He played varsity baseball for the University of Hartford Hawks serving as catcher for the team. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
After graduation, Jim enjoyed a short stint as a high school English teacher in West Hartford, CT. He then entered the business world working for over twenty years for TruGreen Chemlawn, serving in various capacities including Field Service Manager, Branch Manager, and Regional Customer Service Manager.
Since his retirement, Jim became an avid golfer. He was a member of Blissful Meadows Golf Club in Uxbridge where he recently scored his second “hole in one”. He was an accomplished photographer, enjoyed ocean kayaking off the coast of Pine Point, Maine, and was devoted to his grandchildren.
James is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Beth (Sullivan) Chase, two daughters, Lauren Yurkus and her husband Timothy of Holden, Jamie Galvin and her husband Sean of Sterling, and three granddaughters Kyla, Brooke, and Kelsey. In addition, James leaves a brother, John P. Chase and his wife Jane of Bethesda, Maryland as well as several nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by another brother, Joel.
Services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 10 A.M. in the First Church of Marlborough Congregational, 37 High St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at Burial Cemetery in Southborough. Calling hour will be held at church prior to services from 9 to 10 A.M. The John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., Marlborough is in care of arrangements.
