Coach Ellen Kaschuluk likes balance on her basketball team, and she certainly got it on Friday night when all ten varsity players put points on the board. Emily Sarkisian led with 10, and Erin Burke had 9. Colleen Cutting and Abby Lucas each scored five, and the other 6 players shot 2 apiece.

The Rockets were a little low on the energy scale, and that matched the struggling Bartlett squad. With a new coach on board, however, the Indians are an improving team. #20, Jaini Edwards is a great example of a developing player. She tied two teammates with 4 points during the game, but she is only in the seventh grade. Edwards is a player to watch.

Auburn was up 9-0 after the first quarter, and it took another 10 minutes for Bartlett to score. The half ended 23-6, and many of the Auburn starters were resting on the bench.

The Rockets held the Indians to 2 points in the third, and it wasn’t until the fourth that Bartlett scored a respectable 11 points. Auburn made 11 free throws during the game compared to Bartlett’s 1.

In a game where the Rockets should have doubled their point total, Kaschuluk said they’re still struggling with running a set offense and are missing opportunities.

The coach added, “We have to learn to adjust better. We need to refine our skills without giving up on intensity.” The girls play Douglas away tonight and face Tantasqua at home on Thursday.
