On Monday afternoon, the Auburn ice hockey girls defeated visiting Bishop Fenwick, 5-1. With Nicole LaCroix out sick, it was up to Annie Graves to guard the Auburn net, and she had 15 saves.

An unfortunate score with 3:14 left in the third period took away the shutout for Graves, but she played very well. Freshman goalie Colleen Fellows finished the game and earned 2 saves of her own.

When these teams met on January 11th, the Rockets ended on top 3-2, so Monday’s win was more decisive. With 2:39 left in the first period, Rachel Crowley scored with assists by Katie Mason and Julia Crowley. Auburn survived a power play and a brief 5-3 disadvantage to complete the period.

Less than a minute into the second, Rachel Crowley scored her second goal assisted by Mason and Brittany Bowes. With 2:33 left, Katie Mason earned a goal of her own with assists by Kelly Krull and Bowes.

Five minutes into the third, Rachel Crowley got her hat trick assisted by Mason and Nicole Bousquet. With 3:14 left in the game and on an Auburn powerplay, Bishop Fenwick scored to make it a 4-1 game.

At 1:08, Morgan LaPlante scored the Rockets’ fifth goal assisted by Bousquet. Throughout the game, Auburn kept their energy levels high and put near constant pressure on their guests. Megan McGunigle had 30 saves for Bishop Fenwick.

The girls play at home next Monday when they face Bishop Stang at 5:30pm.
