Gerald F. “Gerry” Pierce, 69, of Worcester, died Sunday in the VA Medical Center in West Roxbury after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Sandra (Lohnes) Pierce of Worcester, their children; Andrew G. Pierce of Bourne, Christopher S. Pierce of Auburn, Sandra Rhodes of Roanoke, VA, Jennifer Cote of Auburn, William Horgan of Hadley, and 12 loving grandchildren, and his mother Anne Rita (Hebert) Pierce, a sister Joan Bernier of Dunedin, FL, as well as nieces and nephews, and his best friend and loyal canine companion, Maisie.
Gerry was born in Northbridge. He was the son of the late Francis “Hunky” Pierce. He was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade School.
Gerald was a proud Marine Corps Veteran. He served honorably and bravely in the Vietnam War, where he was wounded in action.
Gerry worked for Tuscarora Inc., as an electrician and Maintenance Supervisor; he had previously worked for Creative Packaging, and Heald Machine, in Worcester. He liked nothing better than spending time at his house on Cape Cod, relaxing, fishing and playing golf. He was active in local affairs, Gerry coached little league, was a Boy Scout Leader, a member of St. Joseph’s Church and its choir. In the service he belonged to the Marine Drum Corps, and after his service he was an active member of the Vietnam Veterans of Central Massachusetts.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 4-7 PM Wednesday, December 3rd in the Britton-Wallace Funeral home, 91 Central St. in Auburn. His funeral will be held Thursday December 4th from the funeral home with a Mass celebrated at 11 AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street North in Auburn. Burial will be held privately.
