In the MIAA Central Division 3 Tournament, Auburn defeated Assabet 1-0 in the quarterfinal last night. While #1 Auburn had a bye in the first round and hadn’t played in 10 days, #8 Assabet played last Friday in the State Vocational Tournament and played Monday in the first round of the Division 3 Tournament. The Rockets did not have their usual aggressive attitude in the first half while Assabet came ready to play hard, and play hard they did.

Although Auburn kept the ball in the Assabet end for most of the game, scoring seemed elusive. It took 55 minutes for Jianna Baroni to find the net off a Jenna Matthews assist, and the front line missed shot after shot. The Rockets steadily improved over the 80 minutes, and their next match should be jitter-free.

They will play the winner of the quarterfinal scheduled for tomorrow between Holy Name and Blackstone Valley. Weather may impact the schedule.
