With Friday night’s 4-0 victory over Doherty, the Rockets head into the post-season with a 12-3-3 record (10-1-1 SWCL). They are the clear leader in SWCL East. SWCL West is lead by Quaboag with a similar record, 10-0-1. When the leaders met on October 12th, the game ended in a 0-0 tie. How this all plays out will be interesting. The MIAA will determine the playoff schedule today, and Auburn Mass Daily will keep you updated.

After a very nice Senior Night recognizing Captains Casey Gurlitz, Jordan Lavallee and Carly Zona and players Tayla Foulkrod, Katie Palace, and Alexa Kennedy, the Rockets came out strong and kept the Highlanders (5-13) at bay for the entire game. Goalkeeper Abby Lucas only logged one save as she recorded her ninth shutout.

Although it took over 20 minutes to score past Doherty’s keeper, Auburn racked up shots on net early on. According to the book, the Rockets had over 100 shots on net with Lavallee leading at 20 and Gurlitz following with 17. While the Highlanders’ goalie had an impressive number of saves, it’s the ones that got past her that made the difference.

At the 9:55 mark of the first half, Shannon Hynes scored with an assist by her sister Kileigh. At 5:33, Carly Zona scored assisted by Tayla Foulkrod. The Rockets were up 3-0 at the half when, with 1:06 left, Jordan Lavallee made an unassisted score.

Auburn continued their assault in the second half but only scored once when Shannon Hynes shot an unassisted goal at 4:32. We wish the field hockey team the best in the playoffs and hope for another run to the top.
