Last night, Auburn defeated North Brookfield 5-0 in the first round of the Central Massachusetts Division 2 Tournament. They will now play Bromfield (Harvard) on Friday at 2:30pm in Harvard. This is the quarterfinal round.

It took the Rockets 17 minutes to score, but then it was steady. Carly Zona made the first unassisted goal 12:33. Kileigh Hynes followed at 7:56 with Zona assisting, and Auburn was up 2-0 at the half. At the break, the Indians were already looking tired as they only had 2 subs on the bench.

Jordan Lavallee scored at 27:25 in the second with Jess Clifford assisting. Kileigh Hynes earned her second goal at 11:02 with Casey Gurlitz assisting. Shannon Hynes got the fifth score at 9:17 on a Lavallee assist. North Brookfield played hard, but this small school was clearly out of its league.

Auburn had 16 corners during the match, but Goalie Abby Lucas only had to make three saves. The Indian’s keeper was quite good as she stopped about 75 shots on net.

Auburn’s official record going into the tournament is 12-3-3 and they are ranked #6. Bromfield was 14-1-2 and is ranked #3. Yesterday, they beat #14 Northbridge 3-1. The Rockets won 6-0 and 4-1 when they faced Northbridge twice this year. Auburn also had five D1 schools on their schedule which accounted for all three losses, one tie and one win. Bromfield had none. It should be an interesting afternoon on Friday.
