As members of a new “Partners in Music” alliance, Pakachoag Music School, the Worcester Youth Orchestras (WYO) and Worcester Children’s Chorus (WCC) will present a fall Open House on Tuesday, September 2nd from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Pakachoag Music School’s home site at 203 Pakachoag Street in Auburn.

The “Partners in Music” alliance comes as a result of shared programming interests, although pre-existing relationships – both student- and volunteer-based, have also contributed to the desire for Pakachoag Music School to work collaboratively with each of the other two entities. Both WYO and WCC will offer programming at Pakachoag this fall.

The Worcester Youth Orchestra’s new Youth Baroque Orchestra will meet on Tuesday evenings at Pakachoag. The WCC’s new Young Singer’s Class, for Grades 1 to 3, will meet on Thursdays after school at Pakachoag.

Pakachoag Executive Director Sarah Smongeski notes: “As Partners in Music, we are collectively able to make each organization’s unique set of programming more widely and easily available to the larger community. We’re excited to have this opportunity to support each other’s missions through shared programming.”

The Worcester Children’s Chorus (WCC) Young Singer’s Class, which serves as a preparatory program for the Chorus, will be led by Philip Montgomery, Associate Director of WCC. “This is an exciting time for the Chorus”, says Philip. “We’ve recently appointed Pamela Mindell as our new Artistic Director, and are now gearing up for what promises to be an exciting year of singing and music making for children and youth.”

The Worcester Youth Orchestra’s new Youth Baroque Orchestra focuses on repertoire and performance practice from the Baroque Era. A more competitive ensemble (than WYO’s other orchestras), enrollment is open, by audition, to all string students and a few limited spots for wind players. Students will have the opportunity to play on baroque instruments. The Baroque Orchestra, smaller in size than WYO’s full Symphonic Orchestra, will be under the direction of WYOs Artistic and Executive Director Jonathan Brennand.

Jonathan notes: “As we come into the new academic year, The Orchestra is at a really exciting place in its development. With the growth of the overall orchestra program, while ‘incubated’ at Pakachoag for the past 3 years, our weekly rehearsals will now be in residence at the Auburn Public Schools, which provides a larger rehearsal space, starting this fall. Although the Orchestra’s Saturday rehearsals will move out of the Pakachoag facility, we’re excited to continue our existing partnership with the Music School by offering the new Youth Baroque Orchestra which will operate in residence at Pakachoag”. The School and Orchestra are also planning a joint concert for later this year.

Smongeski adds “We are currently seeing an increasing number of Pakachoag students auditioning for entry into the Orchestras. We hope the choir opportunity at the school will likewise allow students more opportunities to broaden their musical and personal development.”

Philip, of the WCC, adds: “We anticipate that choir members will benefit from the convenience and high-quality of Pakachoag’s private lesson program, available at Pakachoag’s Auburn facility and W. Boylston satellite.”

All three program directors will be on hand for the September 2nd open house. Pakachoag’s Suzuki program coordinator, Amy Matherly, and a member of the Pakachoag Music Together early childhood program for ages birth through 7 years will also be on hand.

Refreshments will be available, with music provided by student musicians.
