Auburn Fire Rescue Department responded to a two alarm fire at 57 Hampton St. early Thursday morning.

At 5:04am, Auburn Fire Rescue received a report of smoke coming from the home. On arrival crews were met with high heat and a heavy smoke coming from the building. A second alarm was struck immediately.

Lieutenant Justin Brigham said “Crews made entry and a quick knockdown of the fire was made. The building was searched and no one was found in the residence.”

Lieutenant Brigham said “The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes and the fire does not appear to be suspicious, although it is under investigation by AFRD Investigation and the Auburn Police.”

AFRD was assisted at the scene by one engine from Millbury and one engine and ladder from Worcester. Leicester and Oxford Fire Departments provided coverage to the town with one engine and an ambulance.

There is no word yet on a cause or origin of the blaze, or on the extent of the damage to the building. According to assessor’s records, the home is owned by William Even. Mr. Even was not able to be reached for comment.
