At last week’s School Committee Meeting, the contract to construct a new parking lot at 10 Swanson Rd, the current middle school, was awarded. J.H. Lynch & Sons, Inc. was the low bidder at $737,500. Two higher bids of $740,000 and $748,000 were discarded. The work will be done this summer and has a completion date of August 16th.
The project will improve vehicle flow for both buses and those dropping off students from cars. Anyone familiar with the current vehicle flow will certainly appreciate these changes. The current parking area will be entirely rebuilt and a second lot will be built where the practice football field is. In total, there will be 105 parking spaces and 5 handicapped spaces. Two additional handicapped spaces will also be added near the new playground. Currently there are 80 regular and 2 handicapped spaces.
Lighting poles will be installed which will be a welcomed sight for nighttime activities. The playground will have age appropriate equipment for the future grade 3-5 use of the school, and the Auburn DPW has contributed to the site work and saved some construction expenses.
