Benvenuti shot a 92, just missing the cut to qualify for the State Tournament. “I shot 18 better than last year” said Benvenuti. Green Hill Golf Course is also the site of her personal best score, a 46 (regular season high school matches play 9 holes).
As the top golfer this season, Benvenuti qualified for the individual play category at the MIAA tournament.
The Auburn High Girls team missed qualifying for the team competition by one match. They needed to win six as a team but only managed to grab five this season. Hopefully next year, that will change.
Benvenuti will be back for her senior year, and her fourth as a varsity golfer. “I also practiced with the high school team when I was an 8th grader. But I couldn’t compete yet” added Benvenuti.
She will keep golfing and continue golf lessons during the off season. “I play year round. I love the game” Benvenuti says. With her leadership and an added year of experience for the team, there is a good chance we’ll see the girls golf team do some damage in the league next season.
