The 2014 Spring soccer season for United Soccer of Auburn wrapped up this weekend with three teams competing at the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions. The three teams qualified for MTOC by winning their respective divisions in Midland Area Youth Soccer (MAYS), the region in which Auburn competes.

The Girls U19 team, coached by Pete Chestna and assisted by Alicia Chestna and Bob Rojee, went 1-1-1, losing in the semifinal round.  Auburn dropped a tough first game 2-1 against eventual champion Mariner South Coast Soccer Club.  Auburn rebounded on Saturday, defeating Kingston 1-0 and tying Dracut to advance to the semifinal round.  On Sunday, Auburn ran into a hot Tyngsboro team, and dropped their final game 6-0.  The girls U19 team ends the season 9-2-2.

The Girls U16 team coached by Breyn Brothers and assisted by Ken Cavanaugh and Stephen McGrath, also went 1-1-1 in the tournament, but did not earn enough points to reach the semifinal round.  Auburn started with a solid 2-0 victory over Brockton on Friday.  They tied Seekonk 1-1 in their early game on Saturday, then lost to Longmeadow 1-0 in their final game.  The U16 team finished with an overall record of 9-1-2.

The Girls U12 team coached by Tim Norris and assisted by Frank Mathews and Christian Stokes was making their first MTOC appearance, going 0-3 in three close battles.  Auburn lost it’s first game on Friday to Easton by a score of 2-0.  On Saturday, the girls continued their solid play, but struggled to mount any offense, dropping a 2-0 game to Northboro and a 1-0 game to Northampton.  The team finished 8-3-2 on the season.

Several Auburn teams we also participated in the Gaffney Cup the weekend of June 14.  Gaffney Cup is a season-ending jamboree style tournament for U12 and U14 boys and girls teams.

The Boys U14 team coached by David Keyes and Christian Stokes won both of their Gaffney Cup games.  They defeated Mountain Club 4-0, then beat Shrewsbury 1-0.
