At last night’s School Committee meeting, We The People advisors Vincent Benacchio and Spencer Kennard gave an update on their fundraising efforts since the end of January. Without any federal or state government support, the cost of attending the national competition is a staggering $47,000 for the team members and four faculty chaperones.
Many small fundraisers have occurred to date which have certainly helped, but the big donors should be noted. Most recently, Dr. Arthur and Dr. Martha Pappas contributed $5,000.
Others donating $1,000 or more are Auburn Public Schools, Auburn Educational Association, Worcester Pistol and Rifle Club, Major David Brodeur Memorial Foundation, Auburn Masonic Charitable Association, Lafleur Electrical Co. Inc, and Fallon Community Health Plan.
To date, the We The People team has raised about $26,000. On March 29th, they will hold a Spaghetti Dinner at the high school cafeteria from 5:00 to 8:30pm. A silent auction will be held during the dinner to raise additional funds.
The team will be departing Auburn at 4:30am on April 25th and will fly out of Providence Airport. They will return during the evening of April 29th. The School Committee voted unanimously to approve the trip.
Auburn Mass Daily will update our readers with the team’s progress and summarize the generous donors as this trip materializes. Great effort!
