Members of the District 7 Technical Rescue Team prepare rescue lines.

Shortly after 10:00 am on Wednesday, the Town of Oxford activated the District 7 Technical Rescue Team to assist in the evacuation of a 13 year old who was injured in a sledding accident on Carron Lane.

The girl, who was sledding with a friend, suffered a broken leg and a hip injury after reaching the bottom of a very long and steep hill behind her home.

The Technical Rescue Team which is comprised of members from the Auburn, Oxford, Charlton and Southbridge Fire Rescue Departments was called in due to the weather conditions and the slope of the hill. A special hauling system was required to be set up in order to attach the basket that was used to get the girl to the top of the hill.

Rescue Technicians along with Paramedics made their way to the bottom of the hill, and then required the assistance of harnesses and ropes to make their way back to the top safely.

The girl was transported to the hospital by Oxford Fire-EMS with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
