He is survived by his two sons; Mark E. LaPlante of Auburn, Gary R. LaPlante of Southbridge, and a daughter Nancy Custard of Conway, SC, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, and a companion Ann Mitchell, of N. Oxford.
He was born at the family home in Oxford; Ray was the son of the late Noe and Rose (Huard) LaPlante, he was predeceased by his brothers; Noe “Gus” LaPlante, Wilfred “Fritz” LaPlante, and Lawrence “Smokey” LaPlante, and two sisters; Ora Boutillette, and Rita Conroy.
Ray was a heavy equipment operator, for many years he owned and operated his own business. He had previously worked for the Town of Auburn, and retired from Quinsigamond College.
Mr. LaPlante was a member of the Auburn Elks, the Auburn Sportsman’s Club, the 200 Sportsman’s Club and a long time member of the Worcester County Deputy Sherriff’s Association. Ray was a member of the National Guard where he served as a combat instructor.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 2-5 Sunday February, 23 in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. Auburn. Ray’s funeral will be held Monday from the funeral home with a Mass celebrated at 10 AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street, North in Auburn. Burial will be held privately.
