Auburn girls hockey faced Leominster on Saturday afternoon, and the game did not start well for our home team. At 8:38 in the first period, Caitlynn Berube scored first for the Blue Devils. At 3:08 in the second, Shannon Housser got Leominster’s second goal, and at 1:37 in the third, Bailey Miller scored their third.

The Rockets were skating well, passing and shooting, but they weren’t connecting with the net. Now in the final period and at a point when many teams would be feeling down and defeated, Auburn’s girls gathered some energy and showed some real passion for this sport.

At 4:25, Rachel Crowley scored the first Auburn goal assisted by Julia Crowley and Kelsie Lorden. Just over a minute later, Hayley Dauteil scored with a Laura Mikelonis assist. The Leominster players looked stunned.

It would take another six minutes for the Rockets to score again all the while putting up an excellent defense. At 11:14 Katie Mason made the third goal assisted by Brittany Bowes. The game was tied 3-3 and it was off to the races.

Leominster picked up their game and made multiple pushes, but the Rocket defense repelled each advance and worked the puck to the other end. The Blue Devils used a last minute timeout to plan a strategy, but they surprisingly came out with their goalie still in the net. Even with the puck dropped in Auburn’s end, they could not capitalize.

Nicole LaCroix had 21 saves for the Rockets, and they have a 1-1-1 record. Leominster falls to 0-4-2. The Rockets next home game is at 9:30AM on January 20th when they will face Bishop Fenwick.
