Yesterday at noon, Auburn town employees gathered at town hall for a holiday lunch hosted by Town Manager Julie Jacobson. From the yellow shirts of the DPW, to the dark blue uniforms of police officers and firefighters, and to the shirts and ties of Auburn’s managers, all town departments seemed to be well represented. This year’s invitation also went out to board and committee members since they are considered employees in the eyes of the Commonwealth.

Ms. Jacobson said she has personally funded this event since coming to town and no tax dollars are used. Contributions from department heads have allowed the celebration to grow and have allowed the broad reach. Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School catered the event while the Auburn High School Band provided background music.

The sharply dressed Bay Path culinary students kept the serving tables filled with sandwiches, pasta salad, snacks, and more cookies than any web browser could use. (A little tech humor here.) AHS’s Virginia Bailey conducted her students in a variety of holiday tunes, and current students were joined by a few alumni home for the winter break.

Ms. Jacobson said while there are quite a few town employees, most don’t interface in their day-to-day jobs. It was also an opportunity to say “thanks” to a group of hard working people who do a lot for the community.
