AUBURN-John G. “Jack” Smith, 81 of Auburn died unexpectedly while at his Texas winter residence with family.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Margaret “Sally” (Inglis) Smith of Auburn, a son Gordon Smith and his wife Shellie Smith of Denton, Texas, a daughter-in-law Shirleyann Smith, 4 grandchildren, Robert Smith, Jr. or Worcester, Alyssa Smith of Auburn, Kaylie Smith and Lydia Smith both of Denton Texas. Jack is predeceased by a son Robert Smith. He was born in Pawtucket, RI. He was the son of the late Walter and Iris (Kay) Smith.
He was a graduate of Pawtucket East High School and Brown University, class of 1955. Upon graduation, Jack was employed by the Coca-Cola Co. as a chemist, then IBM as a programmer, Bernat Yarns as a production manager and at PaineWebber/UBS as a stockbroker, account vice president for 30 years. He was a 50 year parishioner of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Auburn, where he served as a Past treasurer, and Vestry member. Jack performed additional volunteer work for the Goddard Home, Auburn District Nursing Association, American Cancer Society and the Rotary Club.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday December 20, 2013 from 4-7 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. His funeral will be held at 10AM Saturday December 21, 2013 in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 35 School Street, Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
