No Basketball Challenge from Southbridge

Both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams played Southbridge on Friday night, and neither game was notable. The boys won 73-63 while the girls crushed the Pioneers 58-8.

D.J. Scavone scored 30 points for the Rockets followed by Mark Wright at 16 and Mike Thomas at 10. Auburn racked up a half time lead of 42-28 and never looked back. Auburn is now 3-0.

In less than 2 minutes, the Auburn girls had a 12-0 lead, and they ended the first quarter 27-0. With 6:32 left in the second, the Pioneers finally dropped a free throw making it 30-1. The half ended 37-4.

Southbridge added 2 points in each the third and fourth quarters, but nothing was going to stop the Rockets’ launch. Coach Ellen Kaschuluk seized the opportunity to give some JV players court time. Allowing them the chance to get “the jitters out” now will make them more ready for a game when they’re needed because of foul trouble or an injury.

Emily Sarkisian led the Rockets with 14 points. Amber Abderrazzaq and Nathalie Khafaga each had 8. Auburn is now 4-0 and will face Millbury tonight at home, 7pm.
