A motor vehicle that struck a utility pole on Rockland Rd. near Auburn St. on Tuesday night caused a power outage for over an hour. “The vehicle struck the pole and then fled the scene”, said Auburn Fire Rescue Chief Stephen M. Coleman Jr.
The pole was across the road and it took down about 100 feet of the primary wires. It also ripped the services off of three homes on Rockland Rd. The DPW sent a sander to the scene to sand over fluid in the roadway that was left from the fleeing vehicle.
National Grid had the power restored to many streets in a little over an hour although Auburn Street to Drury Square had no power until about 3:00 am.
