As their regular seasons are coming to a quick close, AHS boys and girls soccer teams continue to fight for victories. It began on Thursday when the boys faced Tantasqua away under the lights. The Warriors came out strong, but the Rockets defense circled the wagons and repelled attack after attack.

Keeper Adam Gillies protected the net for this expected tough game and made 12 saves. While Tantasqua did score a goal, Auburn’s Richie Augusto and Kyle Peoples both scored, and the Rockets would earn another victory 2-1. The boys play their last regular season game today, 3:30 at home against Grafton.

The girls did not fare so well in Fiskdale at the 7PM slot as they fell to D1 Tantasqua 4-1. Friday was equally disappointing for the lady Rockets when powerhouse Northbridge (15-0-2) protected their home turf and held Jianna Baroni to a single goal. The Rams would go on to score 6 of their own and win 6-1. This left the Rockets at 10-6-1.

Saturday was the girls’ final regular season game and they faced D1 Wachusett Regional. Jianna Baroni scored about seven minutes into the second half with an assist by Jordyn Abasciano. Keeper Sarah Fahey recorded her eighth shutout of the season and had 15 saves. The Rockets had a grueling schedule this past week with 4 games in 6 days. To end it with a 500 record is nothing to be ashamed of, especially considering the two D1 schools.
