On Friday, the boys varsity soccer team held onto a first half goal to defeat visiting Northbridge 1-0. The Rockets were outsized and often outskilled by the Rams, but the guests could not find the net. Richie Augusto scored with 5 minutes left in the first half, and Auburn would stay atop for the balance of the game. Dean Lemansky had the assist.
Auburn’s strong defensive line often interrupted Northbridge’s offensive drives while Goalie Matt Blais contributed with 10 saves and logged his fourth shutout. The battered Rockets saw limited play time for some regulars, and the bench was totally outsized. It was reassuring to see sophomore players like David Klett and Jacob McPherson hang tough and work against players with significant size advantages.
The Rams, 5-5 in SWCL, are a solid team although too many arms and grabs were used in this match. The Rockets, 6-2-2, were led by Richie Augusto with 4 shots on net and Dean Lemanski with 3. Rams’ goalie Noah Ratcliffe had 8 saves on the afternoon.
