You may have noticed some construction activity at 619 Southbridge St., former home of Ethan Allen and later Amazing Furniture.  According to Town Planner Adam Burney, two dilapidated houses on the site were recently demolished.  The developer plans to build out on the south side of the existing structure (the side facing the Turnpike) and to do some work on the front of the building.

The remodeled facility will be approximately 15,000 square feet.  An unnamed fitness center will occupy about 5,000 square feet.  The developer is hoping to find two or possibly more tenants to occupy the remainder of the building.  There is also a 6,000 square foot warehouse on the site, though its future use is not known at this time.

The property had become something of an eyesore, exacerbated by the empty lot that is the former future site of a Lowe’s home improvement store. The redevelopment is a welcome improvement to Southbridge St., and we look forward to welcoming new businesses to Auburn in the very near future.
